Washington: World’s Largest Annual Cannabis Event Moves On-Line Due to Viral Pandemic

Seattle Hempfest Online Event

Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., PST

In pre-Covid years, the world’s largest “protestival” featured 100,000 attendees rejoicing on the Seattle waterfront at Elliott Bay, enjoying music from multiple stages and a huge circus tent with panel discussions for all three summer days. But on this 29th year of Seattle Hempfest the event is adapting to the Covid-19 pandemic and presenting its political and educational information in a safe, globally accessible format.

On Seattle Hempfest’s usual weekend, Sunday Aug 16, the organization is presenting a four-hour internet “reveal” event to present and discuss its scheduled Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 Global Online Hempfest Extravaganja.

“When we realized that there was no way to safely produce Hempfest down on the Seattle waterfront this year, we started working on a transition in order to present our panels, speakers, vendors, and music via the internet,” says Vivian McPeak, Hempfest;s executive director.

“This August Reveal will be a taste of what we have in store for our global October Online Extravaganja,” he continues. “At this August sampler we will have a keynote speaker, special musical performances, speaking guests, and interactive activities,” says McPeak.

Our world society is facing unprecedented challenges, many of which have been exposed by the pandemic, which presents an opportunity to reset our approach to many things, as returning to the normal that produced these challenges would be a lost opportunity. From renewable energy and safe, compassionate medicine to sustainable construction practices and nutritious food products, the cannabis plant is the one natural resource that can play a role in practically every issue we face moving forward. The October Livestream Event will present detailed educational information on these ways cannabis can position humanity for moving forward to sustainability.

Hemp is superior for super capacity batteries, being more efficient than graphene for hemp fiber battery storage. Hemp-crete concrete is carbon negative, non-toxic to the environment, mold and mildew resistant, and many times lighter than gypsum based concrete. Hemp board composite aids carbon sequestration by reducing the consumption of tree wood. These are just a few of a vast array of ways that cannabis / hemp can aid in positioning humanity for a more sustainable, regenerative, and just global society.
