How a Hemp Home Supported a Closed-Loop Business Model

It began with a vision from a US veteran who wanted to give back to the community, specifically those with disabilities. Chris Lloyd, the founder of DON Enterprises, wanted to provide economic and work development to his community in New Castle, PA while providing healthy housing for residents. He discovered the industrial benefits of hemp and decided to implement the crop into what is known as Project PA Hemp Home.

With a generous grant from the PA Department of Agriculture, advisors from Parsons Healthy Material Lab, and collaboration with Americhanvre and HempWood, the PA Hemp Home is a structure that will be a model for future housing development for healthy and clean living. It’s considered closed-loop thanks to its seed to product cycle. The hemp that was used in the HempWood flooring came from their hemp test acre and the wood framing was sourced locally as were other materials to construct the home.

To hear more about how this hemplime home is not only better for those residing in it, but for the environment, watch the interview below!
